Pre-surgery Reminders

Preparing for surgery can be a busy and confusing time for patients. The following is a list of pre-surgery reminders for you and your patients:

  1. Labs must be performed at least two weeks prior to surgery.
  2. Histories and physicals must be taken within 30 days of surgery.
  3. Any medication containing Ephedrine must be stopped 10 to 14 days before surgery.
  4. Bring a list of all current medications prior to the surgery.
  5. Have all preps to Pre-Admission Testing 48 hours prior to day of surgery.

We want you and your patients to have excellent experiences. If you have any questions, please call Kim Kranwinkel, patient care manager of PACU, Same Day Surgery, Ambulatory Testing Center and Infusion Clinic, at 410-350-3462.

Documentation Tip of the Month: Urosepsis

There are specific coding guidelines related to the diagnosis of urosepsis. For coding purposes, the term urosepsis is classified as a UTI. Unfortunately, the term urosepsis is sometimes stated as the diagnosis even though the patient's condition has progressed to septicemia. Instead of using the term urosepsis, please document using the choices below:

  • UTI
  • UTI with Sepsis

Thank you for assisting us in ensuring accurate data. If you have any questions, contact the Clinical Documentation Specialists Janeth Scott at 410-350-7184 or Wanda Myers at 410-350-7168.
