Maryland’s Only Seven-Time Winner

BALTIMORE—MedStar Harbor Hospital has been awarded the Quality Excellence Award from the Delmarva Foundation, an independent, not-for-profit health care quality improvement organization. MedStar Harbor has earned the award seven times (2001, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2012), more than any other hospital in the Delmarva area, including Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Delaware.

The Quality Excellence Award recognizes individual hospital performance improvement in the four national inpatient clinical areas – Acute Myocardial Infarction, Heart Failure, Surgical Care Improvement and Pneumonia. To receive the award, hospitals must meet or exceed the following criteria and requirements:

• Improved individual performance measure rate to 90 percent or above on the 11 required measures.
• Sustained the improvement for at least three consecutive quarters.

The Excellence Award directly reflects the quality of care delivered to patients. Receiving this award for the seventh time is a reflection of how MedStar Harbor continues to set higher standards for delivering quality, expert care.
