Where You Can Give - Mission Fund
Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
This year's Mission Fund supports the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). With your support, MedStar Harbor Hospital will be able to purchase significant items such as bariatric stretcher chairs that will assist with mobility of bariatric patients; total care sports beds that will offer continuous lateral rotation therapy, which prevents ventilator-acquired pneumonia; and patient recliners to help with mobility.
All of these items make a significant difference in the quality of care we provide to our patients.
We hope you will support this year's Mission Fund.

Explanation and Significance of Items:
| Transfer stretcher/chair |
$8,500 each |
|
This bariatric stretcher chair is needed in the ICU to assist with mobility of bariatric patients. Evidence-based practice has shown that mobility is a key contributor to recovery of patients. In the bariatric population, mobility can be particularly challenging. This piece of equipment allows the staff to safely transfer the patient from bed to stretcher, which then converts to a chair/sitting position.

| Total care bed, with rotation, percussion and vibration |
$43,000 each |
| This bed offers continuous lateral rotation therapy, which helps aid in the prevention and treatment of pulmonary congestion – thus preventing ventilator-acquired pneumonia. |
| Cardiac probe for Site-Rite |
$3,000 each |
| This probe attaches to the current Site-Rite ultrasound and allows our specialty-trained intensivists to perform cardiac ultrasound at the bedside of critically ill patients. This will give immediate information to physicians to diagnosis and treat critically ill, unstable patients. |
| Patient recliners |
$1,500 each |
| Evidence-based practice has shown that mobility impacts patient recovery. Without enough proper safe chairs, patients must share recliners, or wait to get out of bed. |
| Arctic Sun |
$47,500 each |
| This accurate temperature cooling and /or re-warming device is used for patients in post cardiac arrest to cool body temperature down, in turn decreasing metabolic demands of body. Evidence based medicine has shown that inducing hypothermia on post cardiac arrest patients has been beneficial in decreasing/eliminating brain anoxia. |
