Siemens SOMATOM Sensation Multislice CT Systems
These systems are designed for maximum patient comfort and convenience while offering physicians a uniquely clear and comprehensive image in three dimensions of any organ. They give an in-depth and enhanced view for further exploration into organs that have suspected abnormalities.
16 Slice System
This diagnostic system is now conveniently located near our emergency department for the rapid assessment of patients with emergency medical conditions. It offers quicker and easier patient throughput as well as a very accurate and comprehensive assessment of any organ.
10 Slice System
This highly advanced system offers the most comprehensive imaging of any organ; a specialized lung package for complete visualization of lung nodules; and a computed tomographic angiography package for vascular analysis, mapping, stenosis and stent placement. Images are transmitted directly into the central radiology work/reading station, allowing physicians to quickly review the study and offer a prompt diagnosis.
Siemens Axiom Artis FA Angiography System
This universal floor-mounted C-arm system has a flexible design for vascular and non-vascular diagnosis and interventions. The system performs peripheral angioplasty, stent placement and embolization. The angiography system offers immediate, easy access to all relevant information concerning patients' health. Stenosis measurement and vascular vessel analysis are performed with enhanced resolution and speed. The overall imaging, therefore, offers patients a comfortable environment while offering physicians a speedy and comprehensive image.
Siemens Dual Head e.cam Nuclear Medicine Camera
The new e.cam has advanced imaging capabilities and advanced computer programs that together offer our team superior image quality and improved clinical accuracy. The dual head model offers readings twice as fast as the single head and considerably reduces the time the patient is required to lie still. The cameras can be used in the detection and exploration of cancer, heart function evaluation, gallbladder disease, pulmonary embolisms, gastrointestinal bleeding and heart stress tests. The bones, heart, kidney, bladder, thyroid and gallbladder can be observed clearly using this technology. The images can be stored on a CD as well as transmitted through the Internet. The result is an advanced, effective diagnosis.
"Bandage" Needle Biopsy
The "Bandage" Needle Biopsy uses vacuum-assisted technology to take larger samples of tissue while offering the benefits of a minimally invasive procedure. Patients who undergo this type of procedure require only local anesthesia (versus general anesthesia for a traditional breast biopsy), allowing patients to stay awake and recover more quickly. This type of needle biopsy also is a fast procedure, lasting only 30 minutes to an hour, and leaves only a tiny incision that is covered by a small bandage. The little to no surface disruption helps women avoid the scarring and disfigurement that has been associated with breast biopsies of the past.
Mammotome Biopsy
We offer the safe, comfortable and convenient Mammotome Biopsy. This minimally invasive outpatient procedure is highly accurate in the diagnosis of many types of breast abnormalities. In addition, the Mammotome may produce less internal scarring that reduces accuracy of future mammograms. Learn more about mammography.
Breast MR
Breast MR is a non-invasive diagnostic tool that uses magnets and radio waves to take a detailed image of the breast. The hour-long procedure is painless and considered very safe. Because this technology does not use radiation like other diagnostic tools (X-ray or CT scan), the procedure can be used on women younger than 40 and can be used more frequently for women at high risk. This technology is used to complement other imaging systems, and does not replace conventional mammography or ultrasound. Breast MR is used to: evaluate abnormalities detected by a mammogram identify early breast cancer in those with a heightened risk (family history) or with dense breast tissue screen women with implants or scar tissue that might otherwise make a reading difficult determine the integrity of breast implants assess or look for multiple tumors
PET Scan
MedStar Harbor Hospital's Imaging Department also offers PET scans once a week through a MedStar Health mobile unit that produces comprehensive diagnostic images. This scan can detect tumors in the body and has the capability of providing a whole-body scan. The 45-minute procedure provides images that are compared with previous X-ray films, CT and MRI studies. The referring physician is then sent a full report. For more information or to refer a patient, please call 410-933-2290 or 888-933-2290.
